Can you choose when to use the 2x Reward Multiplier in Gardenscapes? Discover how automatic token use works and why you cannot save it for a specific level.
The new Reward Multiplier system in Gardenscapes changes how the 2x bonus works. But can you save a token for a level where it will pay off the most?
No—you cannot choose which level gets the 2x. Playrix’s official description confirms that Multiplier Tokens are applied automatically when you start a level. There is no manual on/off switch.
How the New 2x Reward Multiplier Works
The Reward Multiplier is a single-use booster that doubles eligible level rewards. It requires at least one available Multiplier Token.
Press Play, and the game automatically spends one token to apply the 2x to that attempt.
You cannot:
- save a token for a specific level while continuing to play other levels,
- turn off the 2x on an easy level,
- restrict it to Hard or Super Hard levels,
- choose which upcoming attempt receives the bonus.
The Token Is Spent as Soon as You Press Play
A Multiplier Token is consumed when the attempt begins, not when you win.
If you lose, the token is still gone. You receive the increased rewards only if you successfully complete the level.
Think of your token balance as the number of attempts available with 2x, rather than the number of doubled wins you are guaranteed to get.
What Happens on Hard and Super Hard Levels?
Gardenscapes also uses Level Multipliers on Hard, Super Hard, and Challenge levels. These increase eligible rewards by 3x or 5x and apply only to the level that carries them.
The Level Multiplier is separate from the 2x Reward Multiplier. When both are active, they multiply together:
- A regular level with the Reward Multiplier gives 2x eligible rewards.
- A level with a 3x Level Multiplier and the 2x Reward Multiplier gives 6x eligible rewards.
- A level with a 5x Level Multiplier and the 2x Reward Multiplier gives 10x eligible rewards.
Playrix’s own example combines a Super Hard level’s 5x Level Multiplier with the 2x Reward Multiplier for 10x rewards.
Can You Save the 2x Until You Reach a 5x Level?
No. If a token is available, it goes toward the next attempt you start—even if that is a regular level immediately before a 5x level.
There is no “Use Later” button. You cannot play through the intervening levels with the 2x disabled and switch it on when you reach the one you want.
What Happens If You Have Multiple Multiplier Tokens?
Tokens remain in your inventory until they are used. With tokens available, the 2x activates automatically each time you start a level.
A balance of 10 tokens therefore covers 10 attempts. Those could be 10 different levels, repeated attempts at the same level, or a combination of both.
Having a larger supply does not unlock any additional control over which attempts receive the bonus.
When Does the Reward Multiplier Unlock?
According to Playrix, the Reward Multiplier becomes available after you complete Level 16.
You receive 10 free Multiplier Tokens when the feature unlocks, and you can earn more through gameplay.
Can You Buy Additional Tokens?
Yes. Playrix states that additional Multiplier Tokens can be purchased with coins.
Direct purchases of these tokens with real money are currently unavailable.
Which Rewards Does the Multiplier Affect?
The 2x applies to eligible resources, not everything you earn from a level. Playrix lists examples including:
- season points,
- Clan Chest keys,
- Expedition energy,
- other supported special resources.
Stars are not affected. Completing a level with the 2x active does not double its star reward.
The Most Important Detail of the New System
The key strategic limitation is timing. You have a supply of tokens, but you cannot assign them to the levels that offer the biggest potential return.
When deciding whether to tackle Hard or Super Hard levels, remember that a token spent on an earlier regular level will not be available for that later attempt.
The 10x combination is possible, but it depends on reaching a 5x level with at least one token still available—and winning that attempt.
Conclusion
You cannot choose which levels use the 2x Reward Multiplier. An available token is automatically spent when you press Play, whether you win or lose. You cannot temporarily disable the bonus to reserve it for a later level.
On a successful attempt, the 2x doubles eligible rewards. If that level also carries a 3x or 5x Level Multiplier, the combined bonus becomes 6x or 10x. Stars remain unaffected.
That perfect 5x level may be just around the corner. Your next token, though, has already called dibs on the next attempt.
