Learn how the new Gardenscapes Reward Multiplier ×2 works, how uses are spent, what rewards it doubles, and how refills with coins work.
A new version of the Reward Multiplier, also labeled Double Bonus ×2, has started appearing in Gardenscapes. Instead of working only as a timed bonus, this version gives players a limited number of uses. Every level attempt costs one Multiplier, and if the level is completed successfully, eligible event rewards from that win are doubled.
What Is the Reward Multiplier ×2?
The Reward Multiplier is tied to event rewards rather than the Match-3 board itself. Because events and reward structures can differ between players, not every account should be expected to show this version at the same time. On accounts where the new system appears, the ×2 is shown as a Double Bonus with a counter displaying how many uses remain.
The game explains the key rule in one sentence:
“Every try costs 1 Multiplier! Refill to keep doubling rewards!”
In practical terms, the system works like a supply of charges. Every time you start a level, one charge is used.
How Does It Work?
If your counter shows 10 Reward Multipliers, you have 10 level attempts available with the Double Bonus.
Start a level and the counter drops by one. If you win, the eligible event rewards earned from that level receive the ×2 bonus.
| Available ×2 | What Happens | Remaining |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | You start a level | 9 |
| 9 | You start another level | 8 |
| 8 | You start a third level | 7 |
So instead of watching a countdown clock, you are watching how many ×2 attempts you have left.
What Happens if You Lose?
This is where the wording “Every try costs 1 Multiplier” becomes important.
The game refers to each attempt, not each successful level. That means starting a level uses one Multiplier even if you fail to complete it.
Playrix's official Reward Multiplier documentation says that the increased reward is granted when a level is successfully completed. So a failed attempt can still use one of your available ×2 charges without giving you the doubled event reward.
That makes losing more expensive under this system. If you fail five levels in a row, you can lose five Multiplier uses without receiving any ×2 benefit from those attempts.
What Does the ×2 Actually Double?
The Double Bonus applies to eligible rewards connected to active events. The refill screen describes it as:
“Get double the level rewards for events!”
Depending on which events are active, eligible rewards can include:
- Season points,
- event-specific resources,
- Team Chest or similar event points,
- Expedition Energy,
- and other special resources awarded for completing levels.
The Reward Multiplier does not mean that everything you earn in Gardenscapes is automatically doubled.
Does It Double Stars?
No. Playrix specifically states that Reward Multipliers do not affect Stars.
The regular Star earned for completing a level remains separate from this system. The ×2 applies only to eligible event rewards and special resources.
How Do You Get Reward Multipliers?
The current in-game screens show at least two ways to get additional uses.
1. Earn Them From Event Rewards
In Explosive Rewards, one reward is shown as ×2 ×10. That indicates a bundle of 10 Reward Multiplier uses.
This means the system is not limited to purchased refills. Players can also receive Multipliers through normal event progression.
2. Refill With Coins
When the counter reaches zero, the game can offer a refill. In the version shown in the current screenshots, the offer is:
50 Double Bonus uses for 9,900 coins.
That works out to:
9,900 ÷ 50 = 198 coins per use.
The 9,900-coin price covers the full bundle of 50 uses. It is not the price of activating the ×2 once, which makes the refill another resource decision alongside the broader question of when spending coins during an event is actually worth it.
What Does the Small ×2 Counter Next to Play Mean?
The small ×2 icon beside the Play button shows how many Reward Multiplier uses you have left.
- 10 means 10 uses remain.
- 5 means 5 uses remain.
- 1 means you have one use left.
- 0 means you are out of Multipliers.
When the counter reaches zero, the green + button opens the refill option if one is available on your account.
How Is This Different From the Timed ×2?
Playrix's official Help Center also describes a Prize Multiplier that works for a limited amount of time. While that timer is active, players can keep completing levels and receiving increased eligible rewards.
The version shown in the newer in-game screens works differently because the limit is based on attempts rather than minutes.
| Timed ×2 | Use-Based ×2 |
|---|---|
| Runs for a set amount of time | Runs for a set number of attempts |
| You can clear as many levels as possible before time runs out | Each attempt uses one Multiplier |
| Ends when the timer expires | Ends when the counter reaches 0 |
| Fast play can produce more rewarded wins | The number of available attempts is fixed |
With a timed ×2, a fast player can fit a large number of successful levels into the bonus period. With the use-based version, playing faster does not create extra attempts. If you start 10 levels, you use 10 Multipliers.
Is There an Advantage to the New System?
There is one clear convenience: you do not have to race the clock.
A timed booster can activate when you only have a few minutes left to play. With a counter-based system, you care about how many attempts you have left, not how many minutes are still on the clock.
The tradeoff is just as clear. A failed attempt still costs a Multiplier, so a difficult level can burn through your supply quickly.
Can Reward Multipliers Stack?
Yes. Playrix says Prize Multipliers can combine with the Level Multiplier attached to Hard, Super Hard, and Challenge levels.
For example, a Super Hard level with a ×5 Level Multiplier combined with a ×2 Prize Multiplier can produce ×10 rewards for eligible resources.
That does not mean every prize in the game becomes ten times larger. Only resources supported by the multiplier system are affected.
Does the Reward Multiplier Help You Beat the Level?
No. The Reward Multiplier is not a Match-3 booster.
It does not clear tiles, destroy obstacles, create power-ups, add moves, or change your starting board. Bombs, Dynamite, Rainbow Blasts, Shovels, and Desk Fans can directly affect gameplay. The Reward Multiplier does not affect the board itself.
You still have to beat the level normally. The ×2 changes the eligible rewards you receive after the win.
What Do We Know for Sure?
- The new interface refers to the feature as a Reward Multiplier and Double Bonus.
- The bonus shown is ×2.
- The game states that every attempt costs one Multiplier.
- The remaining uses are displayed beside the Play button.
- Explosive Rewards can award a bundle shown as ×2 ×10.
- The refill screen shown here offers 50 uses for 9,900 coins.
- The bonus applies to eligible event rewards.
- Stars are not doubled.
- You must win the level to receive the increased reward.
What Is Still Unclear?
One important question remains unanswered. Playrix's official Help Center still describes the Prize Multiplier as a timed booster, while the newer in-game screens clearly show a system based on a limited number of attempts.
That means there is not enough evidence yet to say that the timed ×2 has been removed for everyone. Both versions may coexist, the use-based version may be connected to particular events, or Playrix may be showing it only to certain groups of players.
For players who actively manage their resources, the change adds one more number to watch alongside coins, boosters, and event progress, making the balance between events, coins, and boosters even more important when deciding how aggressively to keep playing.
Conclusion
The new Reward Multiplier ×2 / Double Bonus is a limited-use bonus for event rewards. You build up a supply of Multipliers, one is consumed every time you attempt a level, and a successful win doubles the eligible rewards attached to that level. Multipliers can be earned through event rewards, while the version shown here also offers a refill of 50 uses for 9,900 coins.
So before you tap Play, that little ×2 counter may be worth a quick look. The level was already counting your moves; now the bonus is counting too.
