Won 25,000 Coins in Gardenscapes—Then Lost 40,000 in Just Three Days

A seven-year Gardenscapes player lost around 40,000 coins in three days after completing the latest weekly levels and Golden League. Here's what happened.

A particularly troubling experience was recently reported by one of our team members regarding the difficulty of the latest Gardenscapes levels and the amount of coins they consumed.

According to the information shared with us, most of the damage occurred while playing levels 20,146 through 20,195, the 50 new levels included in the weekly update, followed by approximately 40 additional levels in the Golden League.

The final result was a loss of around 40,000 coins in only three days.

What Happened Before the Losses Began?

The same team member had just completed two highly successful events.

  • First place in Swamp Quest, earning a reward of 10,000 coins.
  • Completion of the second stage of the Card Collection, earning another 15,000 coins.

In total, approximately 25,000 coins had been added to the player's balance.

However, according to the player's experience, all of those winnings disappeared over the next few days, and the total amount spent eventually reached approximately 40,000 coins.

In other words, the player did not simply lose the 25,000 coins earned from the events. The account ended up approximately 15,000 coins below the balance it had before those rewards were collected.

The Strangest Part of the Experience

The most surprising detail was that the biggest problem did not occur on Hard or Super Hard levels.

Instead, most of the coins were lost on Normal levels.

When entering a difficult level, an experienced player already knows that boosters may be necessary. The player is more cautious, pays closer attention to the board, and is mentally prepared for several failed attempts.

Normal levels create a very different situation. The player expects to complete them without much trouble. When only one or two objectives remain at the end, buying five extra moves can feel like the obvious choice.

The player may think that spending 900 coins is better than restarting a level that is already almost complete.

When this happens once, the cost may not seem significant. When it happens repeatedly across dozens of levels, however, the coin balance can fall extremely quickly.

According to the player, this is where experience can sometimes work against you. After years of playing, you expect an unlucky streak to end sooner or later. Instead of stopping and replaying a level later, you keep buying five extra moves to protect your streak and keep the Magic Hat active, believing the next few levels will surely become easier. In this case, however, that turning point never seemed to come. The same pattern continued level after level, and the coin losses kept growing. This type of decision-making is very similar to what happens during a Gardenscapes losing streak, where repeated attempts can quietly consume far more coins and boosters than players expect.

Almost 90 Consecutive Levels

In this case, the loss was not caused by only a few unsuccessful attempts.

The team member played:

  • levels 20,146–20,195,
  • followed by approximately 40 additional Golden League levels.

That is almost 90 consecutive levels, during which approximately 40,000 coins were spent.

Five extra moves currently cost 900 coins. A total loss of 40,000 coins is therefore roughly equivalent to purchasing five extra moves 44 times, although part of the total may also have been spent on other in-game options.

This shows how quickly a large coin reserve can shrink when a player repeatedly reaches the final one or two objectives without enough moves to finish the level.

This Is Not an Inexperienced Player

The player who reported this experience is not new to Gardenscapes.

This team member has been playing for seven years, has reached the highest available level, and has accumulated a very large coin reserve through long-term gameplay.

Because of that experience, the player believes they can recognize when a weekly group of levels feels noticeably different from previous releases.

As the player explained, they try to protect their win streak every week. Maintaining that streak usually costs around 4,000 to 5,000 coins, which they consider a normal weekly expense. This week, however, things went completely off the rails, with the total loss reaching approximately 40,000 coins.

Every player can have a difficult run, and even experienced players can make mistakes. However, losing approximately 40,000 coins in three days was unusual enough for this player to believe that something felt different.

Did Something Change in Gardenscapes?

There is currently no evidence proving that Playrix changed the way these levels operate or that the game activates a specific mechanism after a player receives major event rewards. In fact, the game does not need to rig levels to create difficult gameplay, which is why experiences like this should be documented carefully without treating them as proof of hidden mechanics.

There is also no proof that Gardenscapes deliberately targeted this account or intentionally tried to remove the coins that had just been won.

However, the timing naturally raises questions.

The player earned approximately 25,000 coins from two events. Almost immediately afterward, the account entered a period in which levels repeatedly ended with too few moves remaining, leading to multiple purchases of extra moves.

Within three days, the player had not only spent the entire 25,000-coin reward but had lost approximately 40,000 coins in total.

This does not prove that the algorithm changed after the rewards were collected. It does, however, create a pattern worth documenting and comparing with the experiences of other players.

Why Normal Levels May Be More Expensive Than Hard Levels

Hard and Super Hard levels clearly warn the player that a serious challenge is coming. Normal levels do not create the same sense of danger.

This can make Normal levels more effective at encouraging extra-move purchases.

A player may be willing to restart a Super Hard level after a poor opening because the level was expected to be difficult. On a Normal level, however, reaching the final objective with only one move missing can make restarting feel unnecessary.

The player has already invested time, boosters, and attention into the attempt. Spending 900 coins can feel like the fastest way to protect that investment.

That decision may be reasonable on a single level. The problem begins when the same situation appears again and again.

Ten purchases of extra moves cost 9,000 coins. Twenty purchases cost 18,000 coins. Forty purchases cost 36,000 coins.

A player can therefore lose tens of thousands of coins without encountering one obviously impossible level. The damage can come from a long series of levels that repeatedly stop just short of completion.

Why This Report Matters

This report is not proof that Gardenscapes changed its algorithm or began treating accounts differently after large rewards.

It is a real experience reported by one of our team members, and it can now be compared with reports from other players who completed the same weekly levels and continued into the Golden League.

The most useful comparisons would come from players who recently completed levels 20,146–20,195, especially those who then played a significant number of Golden League levels.

It would also be important to know whether those players noticed the same pattern on Normal levels: repeated attempts ending with one or two objectives remaining and frequent pressure to buy five additional moves.

If more similar reports appear, there may be enough information to determine whether this was simply one unusually expensive run or part of a broader change in the current gameplay experience.

What Players Should Watch

Players who are currently progressing through these levels may want to pay close attention to how often Normal levels end just short of completion.

One failed attempt does not indicate a pattern. However, repeated situations in which the board leaves only one or two objectives unfinished can quickly lead to automatic spending decisions.

Before purchasing extra moves, it may help to consider whether the remaining objectives can realistically be completed within five moves. A level that appears close to completion is not always as close as it seems.

It may also be useful to track the coin balance before starting a new batch of levels and check it again after completing 20, 50, or 100 levels.

Without tracking the balance, small purchases can blend together and make it difficult to understand how thousands of coins disappeared.

Conclusion

According to the report we received from one of our team members, the largest losses occurred while playing levels 20,146–20,195 and approximately 40 additional Golden League levels.

Across almost 90 levels, the player spent approximately 40,000 coins in three days.

The most notable detail was that the largest losses reportedly occurred on Normal levels, not on Hard or Super Hard levels.

This happened immediately after the player earned approximately 25,000 coins from Swamp Quest and the second stage of the Card Collection. The timing is suspicious enough to raise questions, but it does not prove that the game deliberately removes coins after major rewards.

For now, this remains one experienced player's documented account. We will continue monitoring reports to determine whether this was an isolated losing streak or whether the same pattern is appearing across other Gardenscapes accounts.
