What does the Data Removal message in Gardenscapes really mean? Learn the possible causes, how account deletion works, and what you should do next.
The Data Removal message in Gardenscapes is one of the most alarming messages a player can see. It does not look like a simple connection issue, and it does not look like a normal sync problem. The game tells the player that their data has been deleted and asks them to reinstall the game in order to start again from the very beginning.
The message shown on the screen says:
Your data has been deleted. Please reinstall the game to start from the very beginning.
This wording matters. It does not say that the game temporarily cannot find your progress. It does not say that the server is unavailable. It does not simply ask you to reconnect with Facebook, Google, or Apple. It says that the data has been deleted.
Uninstalling the game should not normally delete your progress
The first thing that needs to be made clear is that simply uninstalling Gardenscapes from a device should not normally delete your progress. Playrix explains in its Help Center that game progress is saved, and that deleting and reinstalling the app does not normally reset the game from the beginning, which is why resetting your progress is a separate issue from reinstalling the app.
This is important because many players believe that uninstalling and reinstalling the game is the same as starting over. It is not. A normal uninstall is different from an account deletion request.
So when the Data Removal message appears, it should not be treated as the normal result of a simple reinstall. Something deeper has happened in the way the game recognizes the account.
What Playrix officially says about data deletion
Playrix has a separate process for Account/Data Deletion. According to the official Help Center, players can request account deletion through the game settings. This is not the same as uninstalling the app. The process includes confirmation steps and, on some platforms, requires the player to type the word DELETE.
The most important detail is that Playrix mentions a period of about 15 days during which the deletion request can still be canceled. If the player opens the game during that period and a Cancel option is available, the request may still be withdrawn. After that period, Playrix states that the deletion becomes permanent and the account cannot be restored.
This means the account is not permanently deleted immediately after a deletion request is submitted. Instead, there is a period during which the request can still be canceled before the deletion is finalized.
The three possible account states
Based on Playrix’s official explanation and player reports, a Gardenscapes account may be in one of three possible states.
1. Active account
This is the normal state. The account has a Player ID, the progress is connected to that ID, and the server can load the correct save. If the player changes device or reinstalls the game, the progress can usually be restored through Facebook, Google, or Apple, as long as the game was properly connected before.
2. Account pending deletion
This is the most interesting state. If data deletion has been requested, the server probably does not immediately erase everything. Instead, the account may be marked as scheduled for deletion. During this stage, cancellation may still be possible.
If the Data Removal message appears during this stage, the account may not be completely gone yet. That is why the first thing a player should check is whether a Cancel option is available.
3. Permanently deleted account
If the cancellation period has passed and the deletion has been completed, the account is considered permanently deleted. In that case, according to Playrix’s official position, the progress cannot be restored.
This is where the real danger is. If a player sees the message and keeps uninstalling and reinstalling the game without contacting Support, valuable time may be lost.
Why Data Removal may appear even when the player does not understand why
The simplest explanation is that the player requested account or data deletion at some point, possibly without fully understanding what it meant. But there are also more complex possibilities.
One possibility is confusion between local device data and server-saved data. Gardenscapes uses synchronization through accounts such as Facebook, Google, or Apple. If a player has used multiple devices, made repeated reinstalls, or changed login methods, the device and the server may no longer agree on which save should be loaded.
A second possibility is that a new Player ID has been created while the old save remains connected to a different identifier. In that case, the game may not know which progress should be restored. This does not necessarily mean that the old progress is gone, but it does mean that Support may be needed.
A third possibility is that the account has been incorrectly marked as deleted or pending deletion. This cannot be proven from the outside, because only Playrix can see the real account status on the server. However, player reports where Support asks for a new Player ID in order to transfer progress suggest that, in some cases, the data may still exist even when the device shows a frightening message.
Why a new Player ID can be important
In several player reports, the suggested solution is to start a new game until a new Player ID is created. This makes sense.
If the old account is stuck in a broken or unusable state, Support may need a new active account to restore progress onto. This does not necessarily mean that the old Player ID is restored. It may mean that Playrix uses a new account and moves whatever can be restored to that new account.
This is why contacting Support without a new Player ID may make the process harder. Support needs a specific account identifier to know where a possible restoration should be applied.
What may still be lost even if the account is restored
Even if Playrix manages to restore an account, it is not guaranteed that everything will return exactly as it was. The level progress may be restored. Some boosters or coins may also be restored, especially if the player has screenshots or purchase receipts.
However, statistics such as first-attempt wins, lives sent, lives received, event history, or older account records may be harder to restore. This is because the main save file and the wider account statistics may not be stored in the exact same way.
The possible connection with the Welcome Back system
The case that inspired this analysis is especially interesting because the player said they reinstalled the game because they wanted to play again without spending money. They also said that the first two times, the game showed a Welcome Back prompt and gave them the same rewards more than once. After repeated uninstalling and reinstalling, the Data Removal message appeared.
This does not prove that the Welcome Back system caused the problem. There is no evidence for that. But the timeline is worth noting. It is possible that repeated reinstalls, return-player detection, and server synchronization created a situation where the game could no longer handle the old account cleanly.
In simple terms, Welcome Back may not be the cause. It may simply be part of the wider account recognition system that tries to decide whether a player is returning, continuing an old save, or starting a new game.
What a player should do if they see Data Removal
The first step is not to panic, but also not to ignore the message. It is a serious warning.
If a Cancel option appears, it should be pressed immediately. That may mean the account is still inside the deletion cancellation period.
If there is no cancellation option, the player should try to reconnect with the same Facebook, Google, or Apple account they used before. If the game offers an On Server save, the server save should be selected, not the local device save.
If the game still cannot be restored, it may be necessary to start a new game on the device so that a new Player ID is created. After that, the player should contact Support and provide as much information as possible.
What information should be sent to Support
The player should keep a screenshot of the Data Removal message. They should also send the new Player ID if a new game has been created. If they know the old Player ID, they should send that as well.
Useful details include the old level, player name, team name, platform, device model, login method, and purchase receipts if any money was spent. The more information Support has, the easier it is to verify that the player is the real owner of the account.
What the player should not do
The player should not keep uninstalling and reinstalling the game repeatedly without a plan. This may create even more confusion between the old save, the new save, and the server.
The player should also avoid progressing too far in a new game if the goal is to restore the old account. The new Player ID may be needed mainly as a restoration target, not as a completely new start.
Finally, the player should not assume that all cases are the same. An account still inside the cancellation period is not the same as an account with a sync problem. And neither of those is the same as an account that has already been marked for deletion.
The main conclusion
Data Removal in Gardenscapes is not a simple visual bug. It is a sign that the game believes the account data has been deleted or is connected to a deletion process. That does not always mean that everything is permanently lost, but it does mean that the situation is serious and should be handled quickly.
The most reasonable technical explanation is that the account may be in one of three states: active, pending deletion, or permanently deleted. The problem is that the player only sees the final message on the screen. They do not see what is actually happening on the server.
That is why the best response is to act quickly, avoid repeated reinstalls, check for a Cancel option, try the original login method, and contact Support with complete account details.
