Learn how to change your name and your pets’ names in Gardenscapes, which characters are allowed, and why some older player names look different.
Want to change the name on your profile or give your dog, cat, or horse a new name? You can do both in Gardenscapes: change your player name through your profile and your pets’ names through Settings.
Here’s how to do it, which restrictions apply today, and why some older names look different from what the game now allows.
1. How to Change Your Player Name
If you’re still getting familiar with the main screen buttons, start by finding your avatar in the upper-left corner.
- Open Gardenscapes and go to the main garden screen.
- Tap your avatar.
- Tap the green pencil icon to open the profile editor.
- Tap the second green pencil next to your name.
- Enter your new name.
- Tap OK to save it.
2. What Are the Current Rules for Player Names?
When you change your player name, these restrictions apply:
- Length: Your name must have at least 3 characters.
- Letters: Playrix’s official instructions allow Latin letters A–Z and a–z, as well as characters in the Latin Extended-A group.
- Numbers: You can use digits from 0 to 9.
- Spaces: Spaces are not allowed in player names.
- Special symbols: The only symbol you can use is a question mark (?).
- Content: Inappropriate or offensive names are not allowed.
Player Name Examples
| Name | How It Fits the Rules |
|---|---|
| Maria | Meets the basic requirements. |
| GardenPlayer25 | Uses allowed letters and numbers. |
| Jo | Has only 2 characters, so it falls short of the current minimum. |
| Garden Player | Contains a space, which is currently not allowed in player names. |
| Player? | Uses the allowed question mark (?). |
3. Why Do Some Players Have Spaces, Two-Letter Names, or Fancy Lettering?
The game used to accept names that you can no longer enter when changing your player name. In our experience playing Gardenscapes, it was possible to use spaces, enter just two letters, or paste a name with fancy script lettering.
Seeing a name like Gily Jio Cafe on a player list doesn’t mean you can enter the same name today. Those earlier options explain how names like this could have been created. Playrix’s current instructions, however, don’t say when the restrictions changed or whether existing names are checked against the current rules.
Our observations about older names come from gameplay experience, not a dated copy of earlier official rules. If you still have one of these names, don’t assume you’ll be able to get it back exactly as it was after changing it.
A name with spaces or unusual characters isn’t automatically offensive, either. The content and reporting rules deal with inappropriate content. An unusual-looking name, on its own, isn’t evidence of cheating.
4. How to Change Your Dog’s, Cat’s, and Horse’s Names
All three pets can be renamed from the same menu. Just choose the animal you want to rename:
- Open Settings.
- Select Change Name.
- Tap Dog’s Name, Cat’s Name, or Horse’s Name.
- Enter the new name.
- Tap OK to save it.
Spaces are allowed in your dog’s, cat’s, and horse’s names. You can give them names with more than one word. The letters, numbers, and question mark (?) accepted when changing your player name are also allowed.
We’ve confirmed in the game that pet names can include spaces. Keep that distinction in mind: a name with two words may work for your dog even though it won’t work for your player profile.
If you don’t see the naming option for a particular animal, make sure you’ve already unlocked that pet in the garden storyline.
5. What to Do If the Game Won’t Accept Your New Name
First, check which name you’re changing. A player name needs at least three characters and cannot contain spaces. A pet’s name can include spaces.
Remove any unsupported characters or symbols, then try a simple name using Latin letters. If that name saves, the previous one was probably rejected because of its characters or content.
Can’t Find the Green Pencil?
Make sure you’ve tapped your avatar to open your profile, then tapped the first green pencil to open the profile editor. If the option is still missing, check for a game update and restart the game. Contact support if the problem continues.
6. Will Changing My Name Affect My Progress?
No. Changing your name won’t erase your completed levels or garden progress. Like changing your profile picture, it changes how your profile looks, not which account you’re using.
Your Player ID is a separate account identifier. If you contact support, your profile name does not take its place.
7. Frequently Asked Questions
How Many Times Can I Change the Names?
You can change your name and your dog’s, cat’s, and horse’s names as many times as you like.
Does It Cost Coins to Change a Name?
No. Changing a name is free.
Which Special Symbols Can I Use?
The only symbol you can use is a question mark (?).
8. Conclusion
Change the name through the right menu, then check that it saved. If you still have an older name with distinctive lettering, think it over before confirming: the current rules may keep you from putting it back exactly as it was.
Your pets can have a fresh name whenever you feel like it. Whether the dog answers to the new one is another question.
