Cave in Gardenscapes: How This Element Works

Austin and three companions explore a rocky cave with flashlights as purple bats fly past small openings with eyes peeking out.

Learn how the Cave element works in Gardenscapes, how power-ups release bats, and how to complete the objective using the most accessible caves.

The Cave is a Gardenscapes element that releases bats when hit by power-up explosions. Careful blast placement helps you complete the objective without spending extra moves reaching awkward corners of the board.

What the Cave Looks Like

The Cave is one of the game’s newer elements. It looks like a purple rock formation with a dark opening and a bat’s eyes peeking out. When the cave is hit, the bat flies out.

It first appeared in Level 19,046 in mid-April 2026, according to our team’s gameplay records.

How It Works

A successful hit from a power-up explosion releases one bat. Regular matches next to the cave do not release bats.

The same cave can release another bat when you hit it on a later move. If the objective requires ten bats, you can collect them by repeatedly hitting one cave or a few accessible caves. You do not have to hit every cave on the board.

If an explosion reaches several caves, each affected cave releases a bat. For example, a blast that hits three caves can collect three bats in one activation, provided you still need that many.

Once the bat objective is complete, all caves disappear, including any you have not hit. Caves do not spread, and new caves are not generated.

What Makes It Challenging

The challenge is getting the right blast coverage from the positions available. Tight spaces and limited matching options can make it harder to create a power-up where you need it.

The layout matters more than the number of caves. A cluster can make an explosion more productive, while an isolated cave may take several moves to reach.

The Best Strategy for the Cave

  • Start where setup is easiest. Focus on areas with good matching options rather than opening a path to every corner.
  • Check the blast area. When you have a choice, position your power-up so it reaches more caves.
  • Plan your next move. Look for matches that create a power-up or leave useful combinations nearby.
  • Watch the objective counter. If you need just one more bat, take the direct option instead of spending moves preparing a larger explosion.
  • Make progress on other objectives. If two options help the Cave equally, choose the one that also clears something else you need.

For New Players

Before making your first move, look for a way to set up a useful power-up. A common mistake is repeatedly making small matches beside a cave without preparing an explosion.

Conclusion

Choose your working area carefully, then balance the moves spent preparing explosions against the progress they deliver. A good setup should help you collect bats while keeping the level’s other objectives moving.

That cave tucked away in the corner? Let it sit this one out. Your objective counter won’t ask for perfect attendance.
