A humorous Gardenscapes story about the Secret Passage, inactive teammates, locked doors, and the imaginary hardware store that promises the fastest way to get inside.
The Secret Passage door is still locked.
Austin looks at the four locks, then checks the event progress bar, then looks back at the four locks again... just in case they somehow unlocked themselves while he wasn't paying attention.
They didn't.
The rewards are sitting safely behind the door, but the team's keys are nowhere near enough. In the real Secret Passage event, every key depends on the points contributed by the players working together. Most of his teammates have barely contributed anything, and the event timer keeps ticking down.
One player earned two keys and disappeared. Another logged in just long enough to ask for lives. A third keeps playing as usual but seems convinced the Secret Passage is nothing more than another decorative feature in the garden.
Austin lets out a long sigh.
"Great. Apparently, a collaborative event means one person does all the work while everyone else waits for the chest to open."
The Store Across the Street Changes Everything
Then he notices something interesting.
Directly across from the locked door is a hardware store. Through the front window, he spots power drills, hammers, sledgehammers, crowbars, saws, toolboxes, and enough heavy-duty equipment to turn the Secret Passage into the Open Passage in just a few minutes.
Austin stares at the store, then back at the door, and finally calls the dog over.
"Go across the street and check how many coins each tool costs. And ask if they offer any discounts for players stuck on inactive teams."
The dog sits in front of the display window and carefully examines the options.
The drill looks perfect for the locks, but there are four of them, and Austin is starting to wonder whether the battery will give up before the door does.
The crowbar is cheaper and never needs to be recharged. On the other hand, the door looks solid enough that nobody wants to spend the rest of the event pulling on a crowbar that doesn't move an inch.
The hammer is affordable, but it requires patience. The sledgehammer promises much faster results, although there's a very real chance it will open not only the door but half the building as well.
The saw seems useful... assuming the door is made of wood. If it's steel, all it'll do is make a lot more noise.
The dog keeps staring through the window, trying to figure out which tool will get the job done fastest without costing a fortune in coins.
The Story of Mr. Attraversiamo
Austin had heard plenty of stories about the owner of the store. Everyone simply called him Mr. Attraversiamo. Legend has it that he was one of the oldest Gardenscapes players around. After eight long years, he finally quit the game in frustration and moved permanently to Royal Match, where he eventually became one of the game's top players.
According to the legend, that's when he opened this little hardware store across from the Secret Passage. Not just to sell tools, but to help his old friends who were still battling impossible events, unmotivated teammates, and doors that refused to open no matter what they tried.
"I can't sell you keys," he always says with a laugh. "But if you ever need a good drill, a crowbar, or a sledgehammer... old friends always get a discount."
Austin Remembers the TNT
While waiting for the dog's shopping report, Austin suddenly remembers something else.
TNT shows up in levels all the time.
A good stick of TNT can wipe out a huge section of the board with one explosion. So, in theory, it ought to handle four locks without any drills, crowbars, or awkward negotiations with the hardware store owner.
Austin starts taking the idea seriously.
"Maybe we should borrow some TNT from one of the levels. I wouldn't call it stealing... I'd call it temporarily relocating a booster for the good of the team."
The only problem is that the TNT has to be created inside a level first... and somehow removed without exploding.
"On second thought... maybe the hardware store is actually the least complicated illegal idea."
Price Shopping
The dog studies the prices and starts doing the math.
If the drill costs too many coins, maybe the sledgehammer is the better value. But if the sledgehammer destroys both the door and the rewards behind it, the whole plan falls apart.
The crowbar looks like the cheapest option, but Austin isn't looking for the cheapest option. He wants something that works before the teammates he chose for the event suddenly remember it exists... five minutes before it ends. At that point, even knowing how to choose the right partner feels more useful than anything in the hardware store.
"Ask how much the biggest drill costs," Austin shouts. "And if it's too expensive, ask whether we can rent it for ten minutes."
The dog looks over the display one more time.
A drill for the locks. A crowbar for the door. A sledgehammer in case everything else fails.
A complete emergency plan.
Just then, one more key appears on the event counter.
Austin looks at the screen with renewed hope.
They still need a lot more.
"Never mind. Keep checking the prices."
The Tough Decision
Austin finally decides there's no more time to waste.
"All right... we'll take the biggest drill you've got."
The dog walks into the store and points at the largest power drill in the display case.
Mr. Attraversiamo carefully takes it off the shelf and places it on the counter.
"Excellent choice."
The dog smiles.
"So... this opens the Secret Passage door?"
Mr. Attraversiamo gives him a strange little grin.
"No..."
"Then why is it the most expensive tool in the shop?"
Mr. Attraversiamo leans forward as if he's about to reveal Gardenscapes' biggest secret.
"Because this is what you use to drill a hole through your phone..."
The dog freezes.
"...so you can throw it out the window after getting stuck on your next Super Hard level."
For a few seconds, nobody says a word.
Austin looks at the drill.
Then he looks at the locked door.
And in the end... he decides it might be worth waiting a little longer, just in case his teammates suddenly remember there's an event going on.
What would you choose to open the Secret Passage door: the drill, the crowbar, the sledgehammer... or a little "borrowed" TNT from a level?
Note: If you made it this far and actually started wondering where Mr. Attraversiamo's hardware store is... or how many coins that drill costs... then the joke probably did its job. 😄
This article is purely satirical and was written just for fun, poking fun at a situation every Gardenscapes player knows all too well. It's about those Secret Passage events where a handful of event-focused players work hard to collect all four keys while several teammates simply wait for the door to open so they can claim the exact same rewards.
In reality, the Secret Passage door only opens after all four keys have been collected. That's the entire joke behind this story: you're the one earning the points needed to unlock every key, while the teammates you carefully picked seem to have much more important things to do. Everything else—the hardware store, Austin's plan, the dog, and Mr. Attraversiamo—is completely fictional. 😉
Although... between us... sometimes that hardware store across the street does sound pretty tempting. 😂
