Bomb in Gardenscapes: What It Does and What Changed

This beginner-friendly Gardenscapes guide explains how the Bomb works, where it appears, and what changed with the pre-level Bomb booster.

The Bomb is one of the most recognizable power-ups in Gardenscapes. It can be created during a level and can also be selected as a booster before the level begins.

It is not the most powerful booster in the game, but players often build up a larger supply of Bombs than other power-ups and boosters, making it easier to use frequently without burning through the ones that are harder to replace.

How to Create a Bomb

During a level, a Bomb is created by matching five pieces of the same color.

When activated, it explodes within a two-tile radius, clearing pieces and hitting elements inside its blast area.

Compared with the other explosive power-ups, their blast areas are:

  • Firecracker: adjacent tiles
  • Bomb: two-tile radius
  • Dynamite: three-tile radius
  • TNT: four-tile radius

This makes the Bomb especially useful when you need to clear a relatively small section of the board or hit several nearby obstacles with a single explosion.

The Bomb as a Pre-Level Booster

For years, the pre-level Bomb booster gave players two Bombs at the start of a level, placed randomly on the board.

Playrix's official support page still describes this booster as Two Bombs and states that two Bombs are placed on the field when the level begins.

From Two Bombs to One

During 2026, as reward systems changed and Blackberry Treasure became available to more accounts, the Bomb and Rainbow Blast were affected as well.

Today, instead of starting with two Bombs, the player starts with one Bomb.

The change did not reach every account at the same time. For a while, different players were seeing different versions of the system. Playrix's official support page, however, still lists the older two-Bomb version.

The Bomb in Magic Hat

The Bomb is also part of the Magic Hat. When Magic Hat is fully activated, the player starts the level with one Rainbow Blast, one Bomb, and three extra moves.

Why the Bomb Is Still a Practical Choice

Rainbow Blasts and Dynamite can have a bigger impact on the board, but players usually build up a larger number of Bombs in their inventory.

That makes the Bomb easier to use regularly on levels where a little extra help at the start can make a difference, whether it comes from a selected booster or from a Magic Hat bonus.

When the Bomb Is Most Useful

The Bomb works best when the main targets of a level are concentrated in one area of the board.

A good starting position can open blocked sections, remove several layers from an element, or create space for cascades from the very first moves.

The downside is that the pre-level Bomb is placed randomly. Now that the booster provides only one Bomb, its starting position matters even more than it did when players received two.

Conclusion

The Bomb remains a simple but useful Gardenscapes power-up. Its biggest change involves the pre-level booster: where players used to start with two Bombs for years, they now start with one.
