Why Are There Different Layouts for the Same Gardenscapes Level on YouTube?

Gardenscapes Level 77 shown in two different layouts with different move counts, illustrating why the same level can look different on YouTube.

Find out why the same Gardenscapes level can have different layouts on YouTube, and how to compare moves, objectives, obstacles, and the starting board.

You search YouTube for a specific Gardenscapes level and find two or three videos with exactly the same level number, but the boards look different. The number of moves may not match, some obstacles may be in different places, or the entire layout may have changed.

That does not necessarily mean one of the videos is labeled incorrectly. The same Gardenscapes level can exist in more than one version while keeping the same level number.

The Same Level Number Does Not Always Mean the Same Board

Playrix has changed levels after their initial release. That matters when players rely on YouTube walkthroughs, because an older gameplay video may show the layout that existed at the time, while a newer video may show a later version.

The changes can be minor, such as a different move count or obstacles placed in different positions, but they can also involve a much larger redesign of the board.

Different Versions Could Even Exist at the Same Time

There is another possible explanation. Playrix has documented the use of test groups in which different players could receive different versions of the same numbered level.

In these tests, one group could play the existing level, another could receive an easier variation, and a third could play a more heavily redesigned version.

That means two videos uploaded around the same time could theoretically show different layouts even though both are correctly labeled with the same level number.

What Can Change Between Versions?

  • The number of available moves.
  • The position or number of obstacles.
  • The objectives required to complete the level.
  • The shape and overall layout of the board.
  • The starting setup in certain areas of the level.

Even one of these changes can make the same numbered level play very differently.

How Can You Tell Whether a YouTube Walkthrough Matches Your Level?

Before watching the entire video, pause it at the beginning and compare the starting board with the one on your screen.

  • Moves: Do you have the same number of moves?
  • Objectives: Are the goals the same?
  • Obstacles: Are they in the same positions?
  • Layout: Does the board have the same shape?
  • Starting setup: Does the level begin under the same conditions?

If there are major differences, the video is probably showing a different version of the level.

A Small Change in the Move Count Can Change the Strategy

The entire board does not have to be different. Even a small change in the number of moves can affect how the level should be played, and changes made during level design and testing can go far beyond the move count.

In a version with more moves, a player may have enough time to open up the board and build large power-up combinations. With fewer moves, that same strategy may be too slow, forcing a more direct approach from the start.

Do Not Try to Copy Every Move From the Video

Even when the starting board looks identical, a walkthrough cannot always be copied move for move.

After the first few moves, new pieces and cascades can create a different board state in your game.

It is usually more useful to focus on the strategy behind the moves: which area the player opens first, which obstacles they prioritize, and where they try to create space for power-ups.

The Upload Date Matters

If you find several videos for the same level, check when they were uploaded.

An older video may have been completely accurate when it was recorded but may no longer match the current layout.

A newer gameplay video is more likely to resemble the level you are playing today, although that is not guaranteed.

When Is an Older Video Still Useful?

If the differences are minor, an older walkthrough can still help you understand the basic strategy of the level, especially if you first read the starting board before your first move.

For example, it may show which area needs to be opened first or which obstacle should be cleared as early as possible.

If the objectives, overall layout, or major sections of the board have changed, however, it is usually better to look for a newer video that more closely matches your version.

A Different Board Does Not Automatically Mean the Video Is Wrong

If two videos show the same Gardenscapes level number but different layouts, there is no reason to assume right away that one of them was labeled incorrectly.

One video may have been recorded before the level was changed, or it may show a different version that was being used during testing.

So when you use YouTube for help with a Gardenscapes level, the level number is only the first thing to check. What matters most is whether the board in the video actually matches the one you are playing.
