New Gardenscapes levels may initially appear much more complicated than older ones. They include more elements, multiple stages, limited access points, and objectives that are not easily affected by ordinary match-3 combinations. This growing complexity is closely related to the evolution of the new Gardenscapes elements. However, this increased difficulty is accompanied by an important change in the way the board works: modern levels generate far more boosters during gameplay.

In many cases, boosters do not appear only occasionally. They are created one after another, fall from the top of the board, activate in sequence, and trigger powerful cascades of explosions. The player no longer needs only to create boosters. They must predict where the boosters will fall, when they will activate, and which areas of the board should temporarily remain untouched.

New Elements Have Changed the Way Levels Are Designed

In older levels, most elements could be handled mainly through ordinary matches. Boosters were extremely helpful, but they often provided an additional advantage rather than being an essential requirement for completing the level.

With newer elements, this balance has changed. Many of them require direct hits from explosions, power-up activations, or repeated attacks in specific positions. When two or three of these elements appear in the same level, it is practically impossible to remove all of them using ordinary match-3 combinations alone.

This means that the level design must also include a mechanism for producing boosters. The game recognizes that the objectives require explosions and creates suitable conditions for bombs, dynamite, rockets, TNT, and Rainbow Blasts to appear on the board.

Two or Three New Elements Are an Important Clue

When a level contains two or three newer elements, and most of them require boosters to be removed, the player should expect the board to generate boosters during the level.

This does not mean that every booster will appear exactly where it is needed. It also does not mean that the level will be completed without careful decisions. It means that the level has been designed around an increased flow of explosions and that managing this flow is part of the solution.

The first reaction should not be to activate everything immediately. In many levels, a booster used too early may easily clear ordinary tiles but disappear before reaching the row, column, or area where the real objective is located.

The most important question is no longer only, “How can I create a booster?” It is, “How can I allow the booster to reach the correct position?”

Booster Cascades Need to Be Managed

Repeated tile drops can automatically create new combinations. A simple match may cause tiles to fall, the falling tiles may form a rocket, the rocket may activate a bomb, and the explosion may create another combination in a different part of the board.

These chain reactions are especially intense in newer levels. Within only a few seconds, the board may create and activate more boosters than the player could manually produce with several separate moves.

The difficult part is that a cascade cannot always be controlled. It may destroy a combination that the player was preparing, move a booster, change the position of a Rainbow Blast too early, or completely rearrange the board.

For this reason, the player must consider not only the immediate result of a move but also what will fall afterward. The more open space there is below the tile entry points, the greater the possibility of automatic chain reactions.

Not Everything Needs to Be Cleared Immediately

One of the most important strategic changes is that some difficult areas do not need to become an immediate priority. If the level produces many boosters, several of these areas may later be hit by rockets, bombs, or dynamite created by falling tiles.

A player may waste many moves trying to reach an isolated element with ordinary matches. A few moves later, a TNT explosion may clear the entire row without requiring any additional effort.

This does not mean that every difficult area should be ignored. The player needs to judge whether it can be hit later by the boosters that are likely to appear. If it is positioned along a rocket’s path, near an area where bombs are frequently created, or below a section with heavy tile drops, it may be better to focus on another objective first.

The correct strategy is no longer based exclusively on immediate clearing. It also depends on waiting for the right chain reaction, because a booster can sometimes be worth more than three moves when it reaches the right position instead of being activated immediately.

More Boosters Often Appear Near the End

There is no specific moment when a level will begin generating boosters. Many may appear during the first few moves, they may be created gradually throughout the level, or they may begin falling in large numbers when only a few moves remain.

In practice, many levels seem to become more generous near the end. As the board opens, obstacles are removed, and more space becomes available, there are more opportunities for automatic combinations of four or five tiles.

A level may therefore appear almost lost halfway through the attempt, but a large booster sequence can suddenly begin during the final moves. One bomb activates another bomb, opens a blocked area, and the new tile drop creates dynamite, a Rainbow Blast, or, in the best possible case, a Super Rainbow Blast.

For this reason, an attempt should not be considered unsuccessful simply because only a few moves remain while several objectives are still on the board. In newer levels, the final moves can produce much greater changes than they did in older levels.

The New Design Hides Critical Information

One major difficulty is that the newer pre-level design does not always show the objectives as clearly as before. This significantly limits the player’s ability to prepare before entering the level.

If the player knew that the level included several elements that are removed mainly by power-ups, they could choose different starting boosters. A bomb, dynamite, or Rainbow Blast could open the board much earlier.

Without a clear preview of the objectives, this decision is made almost blindly. The player may begin without boosters and then discover that a large part of the board requires explosions. They may also use starting boosters in a level where they were ultimately unnecessary.

This change makes observation even more important as soon as the board appears. The first few seconds before the opening move should be used to identify the elements, blocked areas, tile entry points, and objectives that cannot be handled easily through ordinary matches.

What Players Should Observe Before the First Move

As soon as the level appears, the player should examine how many elements require explosions and where they are located. An element in the center of the board can be hit from several directions. An element in a corner or behind blocked tiles may require a much more specific booster.

The player should then identify the areas from which new tiles enter the board. If the main objectives are positioned below those points, there is a greater chance that boosters created by falling tiles will reach them.

It is equally important to identify areas with enough space for large combinations. An open section containing many tiles of the same color may become the main booster-production area for the entire level.

The player should not examine every section of the board independently. They need to understand which area feeds another and how an explosion near the top may change the available moves near the bottom.

Do Not Activate Every Booster as Soon as It Appears

Immediately activating a booster may always seem beneficial, but in newer levels it is often better to make one preparation move first. A rocket positioned one row away from the objective may move into the correct position as tiles fall.

A bomb may also become more valuable if it remains unused until a blocked part of the board opens. If it activates too early, its blast radius may hit mostly ordinary tiles. If it activates later, it may affect several different elements at the same time.

The same principle applies to Rainbow Blasts. Using one immediately on a random color may clear a large part of the board, but it may not create the tile movement that is needed. Sometimes it is better to wait until the Rainbow Blast can be combined with another booster or until a specific tile color is blocking access to the objectives.

Old Habits Do Not Always Work

In older levels, the safest strategy was often to clear every obstacle as soon as an opportunity appeared. Because fewer boosters were generated, every explosion was valuable, and the player could not rely on future chain reactions.

Today, this approach may lead to wasted moves. If a level is designed to create several dynamite pieces and bombs, there is no need to spend five or six moves on an objective that will probably be destroyed later by a large explosion.

The new approach requires more patience. The player needs to open space, improve the flow of falling tiles, and allow the board to create the conditions for stronger combinations.

This does not necessarily make levels easier. It changes the way players must think about their next moves. The difficulty shifts from simply creating a booster to correctly managing several boosters that may appear almost simultaneously.

How to Play When You Expect Boosters

The first moves should usually be used to open the board rather than repeatedly attacking one objective. The more tiles that are allowed to fall, the greater the possibility of automatic combinations.

When a booster appears, the player should determine whether it is already in a useful position or whether it can move through future tile drops. A booster that currently hits nothing important may, after one move, fall directly beside the main objective.

At the same time, the player should avoid moves that block the board’s flow. If an area receives new tiles through a narrow opening, clearing that point may be more important than any individual hit on an objective.

A balance must also be maintained between waiting and acting. Expecting boosters to appear does not mean that the player should ignore every available opportunity. If there is a safe combination that directly hits a difficult objective without damaging the board’s arrangement, it should be used.

The Board May Reveal What Is About to Happen

The layout itself often reveals whether a level is based on heavy booster production. Several open rows, large spaces filled with ordinary tiles, and objectives that require explosions are strong indications that chain reactions will occur.

In contrast, a narrow board divided into several separate sections may create fewer boosters but direct them toward specific areas. In this situation, every rocket or bomb must be used even more carefully.

With experience, a player can recognize from the opening layout whether they should attack immediately or open space and wait for tile drops. This ability is now just as important as understanding how each element works.

A New Strategic Era for Gardenscapes

New elements have not only introduced greater complexity. They have also changed the economy of moves within a level. Boosters appear more frequently, create larger cascades, and can complete objectives that initially seem almost impossible to reach.

Players need to stop treating every booster as an isolated random gift. In many modern levels, boosters are an essential part of the design, and their expected appearance should influence every decision. This is exactly why thinking strategically before every move has become more important than ever.

Some objectives require immediate attention. Others can wait. Some boosters should be activated as soon as they appear, while others should be allowed to fall or move toward positions where they will have real value.

The old strategy was to create the booster you needed. The new strategy is to manage the cascade of boosters that you know will probably arrive.

When a level contains two or three new elements that require explosions, the message is almost clear: do not spend every move trying to clear them one by one. Open the board, observe the falling tiles, and wait for the boosters to reach the positions where they can transform the entire level.
