Learn how Torches work in Deadly Detour, how to craft them, burn spider webs, and unlock hidden rewards in Gardenscapes.
Deadly Detour introduces a brand-new mechanic to Gardenscapes Expeditions. For the first time, progress does not depend only on energy, but also on a new item: Torches.
Torches are used to burn the large spider webs that block exploration across the map. At the same time, some of these webs hide valuable rewards underneath them.
The Central Crafting Table
In the center of the spider area, there is a special work table. This is where the torches are basically crafted, just like in other Expedition mechanics that gradually unlock new areas.
Every time the game needs you to create new torches, it automatically takes you to this specific spot and shows the task "Get Past the Trap".
On the screen, the game shows the materials required to craft the torches, while the reward appears next to them.
- 🔥 Fire
- ⚫ Charcoal
- 🧵 Fabric strips used as a wick
Once all the required items are collected, the game gives the player 4 Torches as a reward.
How the Materials Are Collected
The materials are not given automatically.
The player has to spend energy while opening the Expedition path until they find:
- ⛽ The fuel canister for the fire
- ⚫ The charcoal
- 🧵 The fabric strips used as a wick
Once all three items have been collected, the game automatically moves the player back to the central crafting table and the "Create" button becomes active. When you press it, the game automatically crafts the torches and shows that 4 new Torches have been added. These torches are then stored and used later on the large spider webs.
How Torches Are Used
Torches are not used manually.
When the player reaches a large spider web that requires torches, the game automatically consumes the required number of torches and the web burns away.
There is no use button and no manual activation option. The process happens automatically, much like the hidden routes created by secret gates during an Expedition.
The Two Types of Spider Webs
During the Deadly Detour Expedition, there appear to be two different types of spider webs.
Regular Webs
These webs work only as obstacles. Once they are burned with torches, the path opens and the player can continue normally.
Webs With Hidden Rewards
The second type is more interesting.
There is a hidden reward underneath the web. Even though the item itself is not visible, the map marks these spots so the player knows that opening the web may be worth it.
The rewards can include:
- ⚡ Energy
- 💣 Boosters
- 🪙 Coins
The New Strategy in Deadly Detour
In previous Expeditions, the only resource the player had to manage was energy.
In Deadly Detour, a second resource is added: torches.
This means that the player does not only have to decide where to spend energy, but also which spider webs are worth using the available torches on.
The webs that hide rewards usually have more value, because they can return part of the energy spent or give useful boosters and coins, especially when combined with the benefits offered by the Expedition Pass.
Conclusion
Torches are one of the most important new additions that have appeared in Gardenscapes Expeditions.
The process works like this:
- You spend energy to find the fuel canister, the charcoal, and the fabric strips.
- The game takes you to the crafting table through the "Get Past the Trap" task.
- 4 new torches are crafted.
- The torches are used automatically to burn large spider webs.
- Some webs hide valuable rewards, such as energy, boosters, and coins.
This new mechanic adds another layer of strategy to Deadly Detour, because managing torches correctly becomes just as important as managing energy correctly.
