Why Did Level Goals Disappear from the New Gardenscapes Design?

Experimental Gardenscapes pre-level screen redesign showing hidden level goals and expanded booster panels before Level 9721 starts

A new experimental pre-level design has started appearing for some Gardenscapes players, and one of the biggest visible changes is not only about boosters or events, but about the level goals themselves.

The redesign does not currently appear for all players. Different screenshots show that multiple pre-level layouts are currently active at the same time across different accounts.

In the previous layout, the goals were clearly shown under the level number before the level started. Players could immediately see which objects the game required and what they needed to complete inside the board.

In the newer pre-level screen, however, the level goals no longer appear before the level starts.

What appeared in the old layout

In the older Gardenscapes screen, the level goals appeared directly under the level number with their matching icons.

Before pressing Play, the player could see:

  • which objects the level required
  • how many of them were needed

This information was a core part of the pre-level screen.

What changes in the experimental redesign

In the newer version of the screen, the layout changes significantly and uses a different structure before the level begins.

The screen now shows:

  • level number
  • Play button
  • Rainbow Blast
  • Magic Hats progress
  • temporary boosters
  • START button

However, the level goals no longer appear in the central pre-level screen the way they did before.

At the same time, several players have noticed that the new interface also no longer displays level rewards in the same clear way after a win. Coins, season rewards and extra bonuses appear through smaller animations instead of a dedicated reward summary screen like before.

The Magic Hats system now has a much larger presence inside the redesigned layout, taking space that previously belonged to the level goals.

How this changes booster selection

In the previous layout, many players selected boosters after first checking the level goals before pressing Play.

Depending on what the level required, a player could decide whether they needed Rainbow Blast, extra clearing boosters or a stronger opening setup.

In the new pre-level screen, however, the level goals no longer appear before the level begins.

This means booster selection now happens without first seeing the actual objectives of the level, which changes how many players prepare before entering the board.

For many players, reading the board before committing moves was already part of the strategy itself, especially when move limits, blockers and board structure changed how a level should be approached.

The redesign also changes how boosters are selected before difficult stages, because players now make decisions without first seeing the actual objectives, especially when a level already feels impossible without strong opening tools.

Where the player's attention moves now

Compared to the previous layout, the experimental redesign gives much more visual presence to events, boosters, temporary systems and side widgets around the level.

By contrast, information that previously appeared immediately before the level, such as level goals and detailed rewards after a win, is no longer presented in the same central way.

This changes where the player’s attention goes first when opening a new level.

The fact that this redesign is not visible for every account also fits the broader pattern of different Gardenscapes systems appearing for different players at the same time.

The difference is immediately visible

In the older screen, the player could understand what the level required before entering the board.

In the newer screen, the interface mainly shows boosters, events and extra systems around the level, while the level goals no longer appear before the start.

This is one of the first differences players notice when comparing the old and new layouts side by side.

Conclusion

The new experimental Gardenscapes redesign changes the structure of the pre-level screen significantly. Level goals no longer appear before the level starts, while more visual space is now dedicated to boosters, events and side systems. Since the redesign is not currently visible for all players, multiple versions of the pre-level screen appear to be active at the same time across different Gardenscapes accounts.
